LR16

"...Whether dealing with violent deaths in major disasters or in armed conflict, issues concerning the socio-cultural order of a community are valid. The inability to perform rituals condemns a family to a second death: the symbolic death of their loved one for the lack of a tomb that perpetuates his or her name and confers social worth to the deceased and his or her inclusion in the generational continuity of a family."

/Management of. Dead Bodies in Disaster Situations. Disaster Manuals and Guidelines Series, Nº 5. Washington, D.C., 2004./

LR16 is focusing on the upcoming problems of mass death during a natural disaster situation. The key issues are the non-biodegradable material usage, lack of ergonomical construction, safety and consideration of the emotional factors on the side of the relatives and the rescue workers. The LR16 coffin serves to minimize contact with infected corpses. It makes the storage of the bodies easier, has fully biodegradable solid construction, and provides final respect to the deceased relatives.

Objective: research, concept development, prototyping

Client: University research project
